PHotonic Integration Conference

17 September 2020

Discover the latest tech developments, manufacturing and testing challenges and market opportunities with the international community.

Photonics – the science of light – is shaping 21st century innovations in virtually all industries. The Photonics Application Week (PHAPPS Week) is geared towards the business professional who wants to know more about the practical applications of photonics in his or her industry.
PHAPPS week is all about practice and applications. During the workshops, exhibitions, lectures, networking events, debates and hackathons you get first-hand experience and insight into how the fast-growing field of photonics can benefit your business and industry.

About the event

This year will be the 3rd edition of the Photonic Integration Conference. This online event is part of the Photonics Application Week, organized by Jakajima and Microcentrum.
In this online interactive event, speakers will zoom in from application perspective to photonic technology and zoom out to the application to see the change in perspective with every step taken. Fit-for-purpose requires that each aggregation level meets its key performance parameters and functionality.

PhotonDelta Involvement

PhotonDelta will be hosting two presentations during the online conference on the 7th of October:

12:45 – 13:05: “Megatrends in the automotive & mobility sector and the role of integrated photonics” by Carol de Vries
Until not so long ago, photonics was integrated into the car only through lighting functions. However, photonic technology provides critical functions for imaging, sensing, smart displaying or for media communication networks.
As a consequence, photonics is more and more adopted beyond lighting. Besides that, the technology offers many opportunities for smart mobility / autonomous driving.
13:05 – 13:25: “Integrated photonic biosensors: leading the path to point-of-care diagnostics” by Maarten Buijs

Rapid and cost-effective diagnostics at the point of care has been pursued for decades, but so far only little progress has been achieved. This became painfully apparent with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
No diagnostic platform or biosensor can accommodate the stringent requires of low cost, ease of use, high selectivity and specificity, speed and the capability to detect multiple disease or infection markers simultaneously. With the recent progress in integrated photonics, the development of such a sensor is taking shape. Many projects are underway worldwide to turn these into commercially viable propositions. It is therefore to be expected that biosensors will be one of the major drivers in the growth of integrated photonics as an industry.
PhotonDelta is working on a roadmap for biosensors based on integrated photonics, which will provide the Dutch ecosystem of integrated photonics companies and institutes with the guidance to expand on their leading position in this area. This presentation will provide details of the main content of the roadmap, which will be published in a few months.
