date: February 06 2018 - February 08 2018     |     comments

AF – The French Aerospace Society – is organizing OPTRO 2018, the 8th International Symposium on OPTRONICS IN DEFENCE AND SECURITY, from 6th to 8th February, 2018.

OPTRO is the European event for engineers and scientists in the fields of Optronics.

OPTRO2018 will present the status on recent advances in Optronics in the fields of Defence and Security and on the perspectives that Photonics offers in the near future, covering the current aspects of Optronics but also addressing emerging technologies in Photonics.

  1. Imaging & Systems
  2. Sensors & components
  3. Laser Sensor & Systems
  4. Signal & Image Processing
  5. Simulation
  6. Photonics R&T and Emerging Technologies
  7. Airborne Applications (NEW)
  8. Air, Land & Sea Defence Applications
  9. Homeland Security Applications
  10. Space Applications

OPTRO2018 will host an exhibition from 7th to 8th February 2018, within the conference centre, offering to all attendees and exhibiting companies in Optronics areas an opportunity to exchange on technical know-how and products.

EPIC will organise a round table at the Optronics conference on February 8th.

Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) systems are enabling the examination, detection, and mapping of objects easier, faster and with equal or higher resolution than conventional methods. They are one of the main enablers of the upcoming autonomous car industry, and are already in used in defence, security and aviation/aerospace applications.

It is in those applications where the high resolution enabled by LIDAR system makes them particularly good for collecting enough detail to identify targets, such as tanks. LiDAR is proving to be increasingly useful in the autonomy of robots, allowing the computers that control them to produce digital maps of the surrounding area and obstacles. This kind of autonomy is useful in both UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and specific task autonomous robotics such as bomb disposal units.

The purpose of this round table is to discuss the still unmet needs for 3D sensing in the security, defense and aerospace sectors and well as the strategize for the further adoption of the next generation of miniaturized, lower cost or higher integration LIDAR systems.

EPIC members and invited companies: 100 EUR (excluding VAT)

For its 8th edition, OPTRO2018 will gather all the leading specialists from government, industry, university and laboratories, and give opportunity to implement fruitful exchanges between colleagues of different countries and disciplines.

OPTRO2018 will be held in the OECD Conference Center, 2 rue André Pascal, 75775 Paris, France
